a transversal investigation ( ACTIVIST / ARCHIVIST / AMATEUR  / AMBISEXUAL )

Sister, where are you my sister? / Are you playing the piano / or translating Plato? Are you feeding / your baby girls or going shopping / totally absent? Don’t you like / the skirt that you have bought? Are you unsure about the color? / The concert is starting, it’s time / for the meeting, the train is leaving, / a friend is coming from London, / a friend of Sandro’s. Were you expecting me? / Oh you are busy. /

from Carla Lonzi – Taci, anzi parla: Diario di una femminista (1978)

In the wake of the recent upheavals in the organization of biopolitics and social reproduction, motherhood has become the focal point of many political discussions in Poland and beyond. Rising from that sociopolitical context, my research focuses on the figure of a contemporary working mother-artist, examining the relation between the private and the political. Informed by the heterodox visions of economy of the future, it also incorporates the postulates for revalorization of affective labour and redistribution of care. The publication explores the operating dictionary related to the term “apparatus” through the lens of a maternal practice, transversing the figures of archivist, activist, amateur and ambisexual. Intersecting different epochs and genres the research navigates between art-historical and literary documents on one hand side and speculative fiction on the other.  These found materials are intertwined with my own photographic works in which I use photography to explore the models of intersubjectivity contained in the mother-child-mirror-camera arrangement.
